A huge component of the Global Basecamp experience is the incredible guides and partners we work with. We’ll be highlighting some of these extraordinary guides and giving a our community a glimpse into everything from their favorite memory on the job to why they first wanted to become a guide. We hope these spotlight interviews will help give insight into their contribution to the GB experience as well emphasize how travel can be used as a vehicle for cross-cultural connection and learning.
A country of incredible natural beauty, Brazil is the largest country in all of Latin America with more than 8.5 million people and spanning over 8.5 million kilometers. Yet lying amidst Brazil’s huge cities and miles and miles of land, lie sprawling mountain ranges, massive forests and huge tracts of farmland. Currently, there are 69 national parks in Brazil exhibiting incredible flora and fauna and impressive rock formations. The Brazilian Amazon alone is home to more animal and plant species than anywhere else in the world. In addition to its national parks, Brazil also shares a number of reserves and protected areas just waiting to be explored and enjoyed.
With their notable pink plumage, flamingos flock in great numbers in Kenya and it’s a special sight to witness. Tourists come from all over the world to experience this colorful spectacle of shimmering pink birds wading in the shallow waters of Kenya’s soda lakes. Unfortunately, the number of flamingos has been decreasing recently, perhaps due to over-tourism, pollution from large-scale farming, or climate change. Seasonal conditions, flooding, and changes in water quality decrease their food supply, so flamingos migrate to different lakes each year.
